NOTES
2009 was a difficult year for grape growing in our region due to a cool Summer with slightly above average rainfall. June was an extremely difficult month with over twenty days of “no sun”, meaning either cloudy skies or rain. This affected the fruit set on the vines and as a result yields at the end of the season were naturally low. We intended to make a Pinot Grigio wine as we did in 2008 but we could not acquire enough grapes to do so. We also wanted to attempt a sparkling wine with Pinot Noir and again we did not obtain enough grapes for it. So we had a dilemma… what to do with the little Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir that we had. After whole cluster pressing the juice from both grape varieties we had two half-full tanks… the obvious solution to the dilemma was to blend both juices and hope for the best.
The juice was then fermented entirely in stainless steel tank. Fermentation was completed in 3 weeks at an average temperature of 55F. Wine was fermented to dryness and settled in tank for 3 months before bentonite fining to accomplish moderate heat stability. Filtered and bottled in August 2010. Released on March 26th 2011. Only 40 cases produced.
